Privacy at FrenchieSwap

What we collect

• Account info you give us: your name, email, and neighborhood.
• Dog care info you enter: your Frenchie's profile, care notes (including breathing, back, and allergy status, and heat-safety plans, when you choose to add them), and photos, so a sitter can care for them well. These are caregiver-disclosure fields you fill in yourself, not a medical record we maintain.
• Application evidence you share when applying: a photo or two and, if you choose, a social handle, reviewed only by our founding team to keep the community real, never shown to other members or used for anything else.
• Your exact home address, if you add one — used only to arrange a confirmed stay (see “Location and address privacy” below).
• Your phone number, only if and when phone verification is turned on for your account — see below.
• Messages you send in chat with another member, and reviews you write.
• Reports you file with our team, and blocks you place on other members.
• Consent-gated analytics (PostHog and Google Analytics), and only if you say yes; see below.

Who we share it with

We use a small set of vendors to run FrenchieSwap, each processing only what they need to do their job for us — never for their own marketing:

• Supabase — our database, sign-in, and file storage.
• Vercel — hosting for the website itself.
• Resend — sends account and notification email on our behalf.
• Twilio, through Supabase — sends the one-time code if and when phone verification is turned on for your account. Not in use today.
• Sentry — tells us when something breaks, so we can fix it.
• PostHog and Google Analytics — consent-gated product analytics; see below.

We never sell your personal information, and we don't share it with data brokers. We don't run ads on FrenchieSwap.

Location and address privacy

Your exact address is never geocoded and never shown to other members by default. The location we use for search and distance (your approximate map position) is built from your neighborhood's general area, not your street address, then randomly offset a few hundred meters — so it never pinpoints a home, yours or anyone else's.

Your exact address is only ever revealed to the other household in a confirmed swap, and only for that swap: access is granted when a booking is confirmed, logged each time it's viewed, and cut off once the stay ends or is cancelled.

Chat, reviews, and reports

• You can unsend a chat message you wrote; we remove its content but keep a placeholder in the conversation so the other person's thread still makes sense.
• Reviews are double-blind: if both sides of a stay write one, neither is visible until both are in. If only one side writes a review, it publishes on its own after two weeks.
• Reports go straight to our team and are never shown to the member you're reporting.

Photos

Every photo you upload — application photos, dog photos, household photos — is processed on our servers before it's ever shown to anyone: we strip embedded location and camera metadata (EXIF/GPS) and re-encode the image. Photos sit in a private storage area and are only ever served through short-lived signed links, not public URLs.

Analytics (only with your yes)

We use PostHog and Google Analytics to understand what's working on FrenchieSwapand what isn't. Neither loads unless you say yes: on the banner when you first visit, or any time from the analytics toggle in your account's Privacy & data settings. Say no, and they simply never run.

Our codebase also contains (unused) integration code for the Meta advertising Pixel. It is intentionally not configured and does not run for anyone today; turning it on would require updating this page first and completing legal review, because sending visitor data to an advertiser is a materially different practice from the consent-gated analytics above. We're disclosing this now so this page stays accurate if that ever changes, not because it's active.

Your data, retention, and deletion

Want a copy of your data, want something corrected, or want your account deleted? Email hello@frenchieswap.com and we'll take care of it. Application photos are kept only while your application is on file, and the same email deletes them on request too. You can also correct most of your own account, profile, and dog information any time by editing it directly in your account.

Deleting your account is normally processed within about a day (sooner if you're not in the middle of an active swap; if you are, it completes once that swap ends). When it runs: your saved address, notification preferences, and analytics choice are removed outright; your dog's care details are cleared; chat messages you sent are replaced with a “message removed” placeholder rather than deleted, so the other person's conversation still reads sensibly; and your profile is anonymized (name replaced, bio and location cleared) rather than the account row itself being erased, because past swaps, reviews, and credit history reference it. Records tied to completed swaps and reviews can be retained in this anonymized form for community trust and our own legal recordkeeping.

Your California privacy rights

If you're a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its correction or deletion, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not currently sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (see the Meta Pixel note above for the one piece of dormant code that could change that, and how we've committed to handle it if it ever does).

You can exercise your rights, including your analytics choice, any of these ways:

• Decline the privacy banner the first time you visit.
• Flip the analytics toggle off any time in your account's Privacy & data settings.
• Email hello@frenchieswap.com for access, correction, deletion, or anything else — we'll handle it for you.
